Joining Météo France means becoming part of a multi-site organization, located in France, overseas, etc. Météo-France is organized around central and inter-regional departments. Below is a presentation of the department you could join:
The “Direction des Opérations pour la Production” (staff ~500), located in Toulouse, is the real centre of gravity of Meteo-France. World weather information is processed here to produce weather forecasts for the public service missions and for many different sectors.
DirOP/MAR is the national marine and operational oceanography Department of METEO-FRANCE, located in Toulouse (France), in charge of :
co-ordination of all marine and operational oceanography activities in Météo-France,
Developments and exploitation of wave, storm-surge models and oil spill drifting model.
software development and production (specifications for new marine and operational oceanography software, software conception and development),
international representation (World Meteorological Organisation, JCOMM),
nationwide studies
Missions
The job is part of the Iberia-Biscay-Ireland (IBI) regional forecasting center, part of the Copernicus marine service. The main task will be to prepare updates to the MFWAM waves model for the IBI regional configuration, as well as assimilating new satellite waves data. The candidate will be able to adapt the numerical computing code of MFWAM, performing numerical experiments and implementing an evaluation with observations. Another component of the work includes analyzing the impact of waves on the coupling with the NEMO ocean model, in a high-resolution configuration of the IBI ocean domain.
The candidate will also contribute to the updating of the QUID quality document and of the Product User Manual (PUM) dedicated to the IBI waves system.
About the project :
In the framework of Copernicus Marine Service (CMEMS) for IBI, Iberian Biscay and Ireland , DirOP/MAR has been selected to drive and implement R&D activities of the IBI wave system for the second phase of the CMEMS program (2025-2028). The proposal of this phase 2 includes several work packages in order to improve the waves system of CMEMS-IBI. The work will be conducted with partners from NOW systems (Spain) and Mercator Ocean International, which is the coordinator of CMEMS-IBI Monitoring Forecasting Center (MFC).
