    The Epidemiology Department is a diverse and dynamic multi-disciplinary international team of approximately 20 individuals working mostly in infectious diseases with specialism in vaccination and vaccine policies, the development of guidance at national and international levels, and development and delivery of training courses. The epidemiology team has a wide expertise in different study methodologies (e.g. systematic literature reviews, case-control and cohort studies as well as cross-sectional surveys) and different applications to field epidemiology (e.g. vaccine effectiveness studies, outbreak investigation and pandemic response).

    Mission

    The successful candidate will provide data management and epidemiological support to teams in all aspects of establishing, conducting, analysing and reporting on specific studies and projects. The successful candidate will collaborate with senior epidemiologists who coordinate a variety of projects being led by the Epidemiology Department at Epiconcept. 

    The successful candidate will initially work alongside the senior epidemiologist leading a large European multi-country project (funded by international and European organisations). The post-holder will provide data management and epidemiological support to the team, including the development and maintenance of R scripts for data management, data checking, data analysis, data visualisation and the automatisation of VE study and surveillance outputs in compliance with good data management rules. 

    This position will include regular interactions with participating study sites and client representatives (e.g. experts at ECDC). 

    There is also the possibility to participate in projects in other disease areas or activities such as training, surveillance evaluation and studies on burden of disease and other research projects, as well as related project management. 

    The contract duration for the post is, in the first instance, for one year with the possibility of a subsequent long-term contract. The postholder will be expected to work from their own premises or from Epiconcept offices based in Paris.


    Profil

    Essential skills

    • Postgraduate degree: MSc in biostatistics, epidemiology, data science or another related subject

    • Relevant experience (2 years or more) in a similar position, working in surveillance or observational epidemiological studies

    • Software: Proficiency in R and Rmarkdown, including packages for data management (e.g. tidyr, dplyr and gpplot2)

    • Knowledge of statistics as applied to epidemiological studies 

    • Knowledge of epidemiological studies and methods, especially those relating to case-control and cohort study designs

    • Knowledge and experience of data management of large and complex epidemiological datasets

    • Knowledge of data science and artificial intelligence and awareness of their implications for epidemiological studies

    • Excellent English level (minimum C1)

    Desirable skills

    • Experience of working with GitHub

    • Experience in creating R functions or packages

    • Experience of working on multicentre studies

    • Experience of working on European on public health projects

    • Experience of vaccine effectiveness, evaluation of surveillance systems, burden of disease or vaccination impact studies 

    • Knowledge of other statistical packages (STATA, SAS)
