Description

Established in 2014, SuperGrid Institute is an independent private company with over 150 employees of 21 different nationalities. The institute is a key player for energy transition in France and throughout Europe, specialising in innovative high and medium voltage direct current (HVDC and MVDC) power systems. SuperGrid Institute also develops new technologies for the integration of renewable energies into the electricity networks of the future.

SuperGrid Institute has been ranked every year since 2018, reaching the podium 3 times in the INPI prize list.

Mission

Within the "Supergrid Architecture & Systems" department, the HVDC C&P (HVDC Control & Protection) group is responsible for defining control and protection strategies for MTDC (Multi-Terminal DC) networks, for the preliminary design of DC grid equipment, and for verifying compliance with AC grid connection requirements.

In this context, several tools for analyzing the performance of control and protection strategies have been developed at SuperGrid Institute. Using EMT (Electro-Magnetic Transients) simulations and key performance indicators, it is possible to assess and propose optimized solutions to transmission system operators and HVDC equipment manufacturers.

Missions

In the context of a Horizon Europe project, you will work in collaboration with partners, present the results of your studies, participate in working group meetings, and contribute to project deliverables.

You main missions are:

  • Implementation, within an EMT tool, of HVDC grid models such as AC/DC converters, DC circuit breakers, cables and overhead lines, the protection system, the onshore AC power grid, as well as the offshore AC side including wind farm modules.

  • Conducting HVDC grid Control & Protection (C&P) studies for the preliminary design of equipment, voltage stability analyses, and compliance with grid connection requirements.

  • Taking part in SuperGrid Institute’s consulting activities: analyzing customer specifications, carrying out studies, participating in technical meetings with clients, monitoring project progress, and ensuring deadlines and deliverable quality are met.
