Depixus® is a fast-growing venture-funded life science tools company, with over 50 staff based in both Paris and Cambridge, UK, bringing to market its award-winning MAGNA™ platform.  MAGNA™ will take researchers beyond the limitations of current day sequencing to reveal new insights into the dynamic genome, enabling important advances in clinical research and drug development. 

We currently have an open position for a data scientist to work on a range of exciting projects related to the development of the MAGNA™ platform.  

The successful candidate will support the development of state-of-the-art bioinformatics pipelines using the latest developments in Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning. 


This role presents a genuinely exciting and unique opportunity for an exceptional individual to play a pivotal role in a talented and diverse multinational team at a key stage in the company’s evolution. 

As a Data Scientist at Depixus, you will: 

  • Support of data analytics and bioinformatics pipeline development for Depixus’ innovative technology platform including: 

    Implementation of signal analysis tools for initial treatment of raw data generated on our instrument systems  

    Down-stream data mining and modelling algorithms for analysis of RNA and DNA maps, sequences, and epigenetic fingerprints  

    Evaluation of automated and manual tests to ensure the quality of data processing and bioinformatic algorithms developed  

  • Participation in formal and informal design and code reviews, group meetings, presentation of work to group members  

This role will suit you if you have:   

  • Strong academic background, ideally with practical experience in bioinformatics applications for the analysis of data from 2nd and 3rd generation sequencing technologies (such as aligners, genome assemblers, visualization tools, and variant callers). 

  • Excellent knowledge of statistics, with previous experience of statistical treatment of biological datasets  

  • Good knowledge of data analysis and signal analysis methods, ideally with previous experience of working with large genetic datasets  

  • Working knowledge of Object-Oriented Programming in Python  

  • Experience of C++ would be viewed favourably  

  • Basic understanding of software development flows for medical devices, and familiarity with relevant ISO standards such as 14971, 62304, 61010  

  • Experience with relational or non-relational database construction, management, and querying (such as SQL or MongoDB) is desirable  

  • Experience as internal auditor in clinical development context especially on topics linked to bioinformatics pipelines would be viewed favourably 

  • Excellent communication skills in oral and written English. Candidates should be capable of presenting technical information and data to non-experts in a clear and concise manner, in an international context (frequent meetings with our UK-based scientists)  

  • Demonstrated ability to work autonomously and collaboratively, within and across teams 

  • Strong ability to work with experts in different fields such as , but not limited to, Molecular Biology, Software engineering, Quality Assurance, Project Management  

  • Enjoy working in a dynamic start-up environment
