Your role:
As a Research Engineer, you carry out research and development works (theoretical design, experimentation, interpretation of results, redaction of scientific articles) related to iExec’s scientific roadmap.
You contribute to communicating results with the scientific community, to the company’s research program and its funding.
Your missions & responsibilities:
Within the scope of your missions, you will:
- Carry out research and development work to contribute to the evolution of the iExec products (PoCo, Marketplace, smart contracts, applications, etc.);
- Propose, design and evaluate new protocols, algorithms and smart contracts that improve the properties of distributed systems and blockchains (e.g., performance, security, resilience, cost, confidentiality);
- Develop and test prototype within the context of the iExec stack;
- Propose improvements for adopting the iExec products to new application domains (e.g., Big Data, Fog/Edge Computing, Smart Cities, AI);
- Join the funded ANR/H2020 projects;
- Contribute to new project proposals (e.g. ANR, H2020);
- Contribute to scientific articles and research reports;
- Monitor the state of art in your domain;
- Communicate with the different teams within the company for integrating research results into the iExec products;
- Collaborate with academic and industrial research partners;
- Get involved in mentoring interns and PhD students.
Your profile:
You hold a PhD or an equivalent degree in distributed computing, ideally you validated a first experience as a postdoctoral research fellow.
Travels in France and abroad are expected (about 20% of the time).
You speak and write English fluently, ideally you know intermediate French.
Skills:
In direct collaboration with academic researchers, you have a flair for human relations and excellent oral and written communication skills.
You have published several articles in A or A+ ranked journals or conferences in the fields of parallel/distributed computing, distributed systems and networks, security, applied cryptography and blockchain..
You know how to conduct a scientific state of the art, summarize and transmit your findings to the rest of the company and to non-experts in general.
Relying on your past experiences, you know how to make theoretical contributions (e.g. prototypes, protocols, algorithms, models) and evaluate them through experiments or simulations.
As a real team-player, you join a dynamic group in which mutual support and cohesion will let you progress towards a common goal.
You have a strong theoretical and technical expertise of distributed systems and cloud computing. Some knowledge/literacy of blockchains, the Solidity language and/or Ethereum smart contract development would be a plus.

Votre rôle :
En tant qu'Ingénieur(e) de Recherche, vous réalisez des travaux de recherche et développement (conception théorique, expérimentation, évaluation des résultats, rédaction d’articles scientifiques) en rapport avec la roadmap scientifique d’iExec.
Vous participez à la communication des résultats auprès de la communauté scientifique, à l’élaboration et au financement du projet de recherche de l’entreprise.
Vos missions :
Dans le cadres de vos missions, vous serez amenés à :
- Effectuer des travaux de recherche et développement afin de faire évoluer les produits iExec (PoCo, Marketplace, smart contracts, applications, etc.) ;
- Proposer, développer et évaluer de nouveaux protocoles, algorithmes, smart contracts améliorant les propriétés des systèmes distribués et des blockchains (e.g. la performance, la sécurité, la résilience, le coût, la confidentialité) ;
- Développer et évaluer des prototypes dans le contexte de la stack iExec ;
- Proposer des pistes d’adaptation des produits iExec à de nouveaux champs d’application (e.g. Big Data, Fog/Edge Computing, Smart Cities, AI) ;
- Participer aux projets ANR/H2020 financés ;
- Participer à la rédaction de propositions de projets (e.g. ANR, H2020) ;
- Participer à la rédaction d'articles scientifiques et de rapports de recherche ;
- Faire de la veille scientifique ;
- Communiquer avec les différentes équipes de l’entreprise pour permettre l’intégration des résultats de recherche aux produits iExec ;
- Collaborer avec des chercheurs du monde académique et industriel ;
- Participer à l’encadrement de stagiaires et doctorants.
Profil
Votre profil :
Titulaire d’un Bac +8, doctorat ou équivalent, vous justifiez au minimum d’une première expérience en tant que jeune docteur (immédiatement après votre thèse).
Des déplacements en France et à l’étranger sont à prévoir (environ 20% du temps).
Vous parlez couramment anglais et français (langage technique également)
Compétences / qualités requises :
En collaboration directe avec des chercheurs académiques, vous avez un excellent sens du relationnel et une expression irréprochable à l’écrit comme à l’oral.
En français comme en anglais, vous avez d'excellentes qualités rédactionnelles d'articles scientifiques.
Vous savez comprendre, synthétiser vos lectures afin de transmettre vos résultats aux différents membres de l’entreprise et à un public non scientifique en général.
Fort(e) de vos précédentes expériences / connaissances, vos capacités à fournir des contributions théoriques (réalisation de prototypes, protocoles, algorithmes, modèles), et à les évaluer à travers des expérimentations/des simulations seront des atouts pour ce poste.
Doté d'un fort esprit d'équipe, vous intégrerez une équipe dynamique où l'entraide et la cohésion vous permettront d'avancer ensemble vers un objectif commun.
Vos connaissances théoriques en calcul distribué, cloud computing, cloud computing décentralisé et une expérience en Blockchain, langage Solidity et/ou développement de smart contracts Ethereum seront un plus.
