Missions
Tasks & Responsibilities
Carry out power system studies (EMT, harmonic, dynamic stability, load flow) for HVDC, FACTS and grid connection projects.
Build, validate and maintain models of AC/DC networks, converters and their control and protection systems.
Contribute to grid connection studies for HVDC links, offshore wind farms, large loads and renewable plants.
Produce clear technical reports and study notes, ready for internal review and delivery to clients.
Support the review of vendor models, functional specifications and equipment documentation.
Participate in real-time simulation and factory test campaigns alongside experienced engineers.
Take progressive ownership of study packages, moving towards autonomous delivery under senior supervision.
Activities
Model transmission grids and simulate electromagnetic transient phenomena using EMT and real-time simulation tools (PSCAD, EMTP, RTDS).
Analyse converter behaviour, control performance and interaction phenomena, and interpret results against grid code requirements.
Automate simulation set-up and post-processing (Python, MATLAB) to improve the efficiency and traceability of studies.
Contribute to internal R&D, methodology development and the upkeep of the team's modelling libraries.
Attend technical meetings with clients, TSOs and vendors together with senior engineers and project managers.
Conditions of employment
Position based at our specialized engineering centre in Lyon/Jonage (69), France.
Occasional international travel for technical meetings, test campaigns and project execution.
Predominantly technical role, with structured mentoring from senior engineers and experts.
Individual training plan covering EMT tools, HVDC and FACTS technology, and grid codes.
Compensation package aligned with experience, with a clear progression path towards senior engineer level.
Profil
Experience and know-how:
2 to 5 years of professional experience in the power systems industry, including first exposure to HVDC, FACTS or other power-electronic based transmission technologies.
Practical experience with at least one EMT simulation tool (PSCAD, EMTP, RTDS or equivalent); doctoral or internship experience in the field is taken into account.
Good command of AC/DC power system fundamentals, converter topologies (LCC, VSC/MMC) and their control principles.
First experience in network studies such as harmonic analysis, insulation coordination, transient stability or grid connection compliance.
Ability to structure a study, document assumptions and present results clearly in English.
Rigour, curiosity and the willingness to learn within an experienced team.
(Preferred) Scripting skills for simulation automation and data post-processing (Python, MATLAB).
(Preferred) Awareness of the standards, grid codes and regulatory requirements applicable to HVDC and renewable integration.
Qualifications:
Engineering degree or Masters (MSc - Master of Science) in electrical or power engineering.
Doctorate (PhD - Doctor of Philosophy) in a related field appreciated, but not required.
Linguistic competences:
English: fluent (mandatory)
French: fluent (optional)
Other languages desirable
Ambitions or Motivations:
Build deep technical expertise in HVDC and grid integration within a recognised team of specialists.
Grow towards autonomous delivery of complex studies and, in time, towards senior and lead engineering roles.
Contribute to landmark European transmission projects supporting the energy transition.
Learn from, and add to, the collective know-how of the RTEi Group.
